The School of Medicine of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki organizes and offers the MSc program entitled: “Social- Preventive Medicine and Quality in Health Care”.
The aim of the MSc is to provide high quality training of scientists, enabling them to apply the principles of the scientific fields of Social Medicine, Public Health, Preventive Medicine, and Quality in Health Care in their professional activity.
Specifically, they will delve into the health determinants and the applications of Preventive Medicine both in clinical practice and in Public Health. They will be able to apply international practices of quality improvement in health care, an internationally cutting-edge subject, taking into consideration the dimensions of safety, effectiveness, people-centredness, efficiency, timeliness, equity, and integration.
In addition, they will gain an understand the core principles of epidemiology and research methodology in order to acquire the knowledge and skills required both for the critical appraisal of international literature and for the design, implementation and presentation of a research study.
The provision of specialized knowledge and skills to graduates will equip them to staff: public or private research and educational institutions, health-related institutions or organizations, disease prevention or control services or public health services at local, regional or national level, as well as health care services/units, contributing to the control and improvement of the quality of their services.
The MSc lasts three (3) semesters and is credited with a total of 90 ECTS according to the European Credit Transfer System.
There are two (2) specializations:
Postgraduate students of the MSc attend four (4) compulsory modules in the first semester common to both specializations. In the second semester they attend three (3) different compulsory modules and one (1) of three (3) elective modules depending on the chosen specialization [two (2) common elective modules and one (1) different elective in each specialization]. During the third semester the preparation and writing of the MSc thesis in a subject related to the chosen specialization is carried out.
Using blended learning, by combining face-to-face and distance learning methods- on predetermined weekends, 1-2 per month, enables working people to attend the MSc.
Courses start in October of each new academic year.
